This week I found myself longing to hear God's audible voice. I desired for Him to actually talk to me, as if to decide that He can only speak in one single way. Then, as I told Him that I miss hearing Him speak in this way that is indeed fairly new to me, I found myself sitting in a humbled space in my heart and crying. In those moments, I realized that I was doing the thing that some of us do in our relationships with others.
You know, like the times when we wanted to talk with someone about something, but somehow we or our ego decided that "if they want to talk, then they will certainly speak to me first"? Why do we tell ourselves this? Why do we put limits and perimeters around the things that should connect us?
One increasingly amazing revelation that God consistently gives to me is in the way my relationships with others absolutely mirror my relationship with God the Creator. I'm always reminded how deeply one we are with Him.
Lately, I've been finding myself reflecting at my own relationships and discerning the roles I play in the strength, struggle or failure of them all. But in all perceptions, relationships should be examined through the lenses of grace, compassion and humility because if you really think about it, this is the way that God treats us.
But how devoted are we to Him?
God does not need to always come to us first when we have been granted the freedom to go to Him through Christ. It is truly a privilege to be able to shut out the world and just rest in His presence.
I believe that God has been speaking about not just being in His presence when we want Him to do something for us, but simply because of the intent of our heart to be intentional with Him. He delights in us resting at His feet.
He loves to give us what we need and lead us to His promises and through to His perfect will. Honestly, there's so much peace, clarity, guidance and love in a space that welcomes Him!
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
-Matthew 6:33 NIV
I encourage you to talk to God, even when it seems that He hasn't spoken first. Sit in His presence and let Him know that you are serious about receiving His love for you, and not just when He is doing something for you or speaking with you first, but simply because.
After all, who is like God?
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6 NIV
